Many Victorian government primary schools offer school-based enrichment programs, but the names vary by school. Some programs are statewide, while others are unique to individual schools.
Statewide Victorian Government Programs
Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP) Years 5–8
A 10-week online extension program in English and Mathematics delivered by Virtual School Victoria. Selected students also attend a face-to-face masterclass.
Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) Foundation–Year 12
Free enrichment workshops delivered by universities, science centres, teacher associations, tech schools and specialist organisations. Topics include STEM, philosophy, coding, engineering, mathematics, creative writing and more.
Student Excellence Program (SEP)Foundation–Year 12
The Department of Education's umbrella program that funds VHAP, VCES and high-ability support in every Victorian government school.
Many schools operate their own extension classes under different names.These school-based programs vary from year to year and are generally available only to enrolled students. Schools determine eligibility using teacher recommendations, classroom performance and assessment data. Some schools offer SEAL (Select Entry Accelerated Learning), others have Accelerated Learning Programs (ALP), Honours, High Achievers, ACE, Gifted & Talented, or STEM Excellence program.
